June 2014

June may be cold and wet but that doesn't mean we aren't out and about!!

The month kicked off with 2 of our staff braving the elements and heading to Bimbi Park to set up for the Tree Planting Event with the Cape Otway Conservation Centre. Whilst the weather was not ideal, volunteers still came out in force to get the job done and 25,000 trees were planted!! All the volunteers deserved a well earned treat at the end of such a long day - as luck would have it, the pizza's were great, the band played along and our Spotted Ale was a hit!!
We are very proud to be a part of the Conservation Ecology Centre's great progress in restoring the Spotted Tiger Quolls habitat!

The next event saw us inside as a part of the Food & Wine night at the Allium. This was a great night, with a close knit group participating. With fantastic cheeses from around the world matched perfectly with the beers on offer, there was something to suit everyone.
If you are in Melbourne and like cheese, then we suggest visiting 'Milk The Cow' - their knowledge is fantastic and the cheeses amazing!!

May 2014

The month of May saw our team busy as part of GOOD BEER WEEK, GABS and The Melbourne Good Food & Wine Show, as well as taking part in a number of other separate events.

Kicking off the month was the Corio Beer Expo at Dan Murphys. Our head brewer Luke was present for this tasting, offering the intimate audience his expertise and showcasing a range of our beers supplied through this stockist.

This was followed by The Grape Escape in the Grampians. With extremely wet days leading up to the event we were a little concerned, however the Grampians came through and our caravan was kept busy for the entire weekend.
A fun event as always, we were so busy that we had to put out an emergency call back to the Estate for more stock to be brought out!

The Barrabool Hills Land Care Expo saw another rainy and windy day however still managed to attract around 400 die hards who came out to take part. We love to support the expo and what they stand for locally.

Mid month saw us back at The Thirteenth Beach for another charity fund raiser. Honestly, how hard can you say you have it when your job is to sit on a beautiful golf course and showcase our beers!

Good Beer Week! Well, this has to be the longest 'week long' event in history. Running for 10 days, we were flat out the entire time, being kept busy at a number of wonderful events. One of our favourites would have to be the Prickly Moses Barrel Fest showcasing everything barrel aged, including our special 'Awesome Foursome' beers named Rhonda, Daisy Mae, Nigella & Jennifer. If you were lucky enough to try one of these beers you would have to admit, they were really something special!

The Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular 2014 was a massive three day celebration of craft beer, enjoyed by over 12000 people at the beautiful Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton.
With over 30 beer stalls and more than 250 beers to try, Prickly Moses brewed a once off specialty beer for the event. Black Lace', our Elderberry Bock was a lager which displayed the regular attributes of the lager style yet had the addition of black elderberries imparting similar flavour to blackcurrents. With underlying rich malt flavours it was balanced with a crisp, clean bitterness and resulted in some great feedback.
If you liked it why not let us know?! Drop us a line on our facebook page and let us know your thoughts.

With the Melbourne Good Food & Wine Show finishing off our month, we went out like we began - BUSY! Another massive three day event, visited by over 35,000 people, we debuted our one of a kind Mobile Brewery!
Our custom fitted double decker bus was a huge hit and generated a lot of attention. Hosting our 'Taste & Talk' masterclasses in the upstairs VIP lounge featuring 6 tap bars and lounge, participants were treated to our head brewers 'secret stash'.
We had a fantastic time meeting everyone and wish to also thank our wonderful volunteers in helping us to make this event so successful.

April 2014

After a hectic previous month, April provided us with a little more time to focus on our behind scenes production as well as celebrations for both Easter and Anzac Day.

We were out and about at Rockin The Hops in Berwick, where patrons made the most of the fantastic weather, kicking off the first weekend of the school holidays. This was the first time this event has launched and we look forward to seeing it Rock On in the future.

April saw us once again at the The Wye River Big 4 Caravan Park supporting their happy hour - this event occurs a number of times throughout the year and is certainly worth attending if you are planning a stay with them.

The Easter break saw our brewery outlet flooded with visiting patrons on all 4 days and celebrations were certainly held! We love when you visit us here and the weather supported the festivities offering fine days for all. There is nothing better than seeing you come through our doors and spend time with us - talking and tasting our Beers, Wine and Ciders.

March 2014

March saw us making the most of the last of the warm weather. One of our busiest months, we had to split our team for the first weekend as bases were loaded and we readied for the first pitch! Attending the Newcastle Good Beer Week, the Gellibrand Blueberry & Blues Festival and finishing a giant weekend off at the Melbourne Craft Beer Fest in Flagstaff Gardens, it was certainly all hands on deck. All 3 events were well attended and provided great days out to all involved.

The month then continued with an invitation to work with Melbourne Food and Wine attending the Flemington Grazing Trail and Cellar Door. It was their first event and it went off with a BANG! Congratulations to all involved, we certainly had a great time and look forward to being a part of this again should it become an annual event.

March also saw us heading out to support our neighbours, the Wye River Big 4 Caravan Park for their happy hour session. Setting up our pop up bar, we really enjoy being a part of this regular event.

Then it was off to the Good Beer Week Gala Showcase to launch our COMMANDER IPA. This was the first time we have brewed this style of Australian Indian Pale Ale, and it was certainly well received by all. This special, once off release, was distributed to 19 different locations on tap across NSW.

Sponsorship events this month included the Karingal Karnival in Geelong where we were onsite, as well as the Longest Lunch fundraiser for Barwon Health which showcased our Prickly Moses Beers to tickle the participants taste-buds.
This weekend also saw us supporting the St Martins Primary School Fete with an onsite stall for those patrons requiring a refreshing beverage.

The 21st March saw us at Thirteenth Beach in Barwon Heads, again supporting Barwon Health at their charity Golf day event where we were kept much too busy to even consider picking up a golf club much to the regret of some staff....

The KIC festival kicked off with a bang - even though the venue was in midst of renovations, it was well supported and we had a great time. Then it was off to the Lara Food & Wine Festival, where over 10,000 people flooded through the gates with great weather and fun to be had by all.

We ended the month as we began, busy! The Fluid Festival at the Daveys Hotel kept us hopping and with the Whitehorse Sustainable Food & Wine Festival on the same day we were certainly kept on our toes!!

February 2014

February was jam packed with some awesome events ... we kicked off the month with the Great Australian Beer Festival at Geelong which was an outstanding success yet again. A huge thank you to Gail Thomas for all her amazing work on getting the Volum Hop Beer launched and all her efforts throughout the whole process. Geelong has a rich brewing history which was highlighted as part of Gail's research.

We then headed to Werribee to the Fromage a Trios on arguably Melbourne's hottest day of the year. It was a fabulous event and many thanks to all those that attended on an incredibly hot day. The event was fantastic and will only grow over time.

Last stop for the month was nice and close to home with one of the friendliest and loveliest festivals of the year - The Apollo Bay Seafood Festival. This year saw over 4,000 people attend enjoying the seafood, music, food and of course the beer, wine and cider. We are proud to be major sponsor of this festival again in 2014.

January 2014

We celebrated new year at Wye River Big 4 with happy hour - many thanks to Matt, Leanne and Andy for having up again in 2014 and best of luck for the year ahead.

The start of January and we were off to Portarlington for the yearly mussel festival - this festival just gets better every year. Luckily the wind was down this year so we didn't get blown into the bay. We just love this festival it's always a great way to kick off the year.

We then headed off to the Geelong Caravan and Camping show held at the Geelong Show Grounds. This 4 day event was great, with stall holders getting to enjoy a VIP session at the Prickly Moses van - thanks to Luke our brewer for looking after the thirsty punters on the night.

December 2013

In December we headed off to Wangaratta for the first Ales on Ovens beer festival. This festival would have to have had the best hands down line up of bands at any event of the year. The weather was stunning and the festival was excellent. This is certainly one to recommend to all those in the region. This was my favourite band line up for the year.

We were then lucky enough to help the amazing crew at the Elphinstone Hotel kick off their "new" pub with punters getting to enjoy our Summer Ale and our Forbidden Fruit Cider on tap as well as being entertained by some fantastic bands.

November 2013

We started our November in Geelong with the Toast to the Coast. A fantastic weekend all around with events held at various wineries across Golden Plains, Surfcoast and the Bellarine. We were welcomed once again at Austins in the Golden Plains.

Next stop was Mornington for the Beers by the Bay Festival - this festival just gets better. Then to the other side of the bay to Williamstown for the Willy Beer Festival.

We then headed to Bendigo where we attended the inaugural Bendigo Food and Wine Festival held at the Bendigo Exhibition Centre. It was great to see and taste some fantastic local produce. We then ventured back at the lovely Bendigo with the inaugural Bendigo Beer Festival held at the Bendigo race course. The setting and weather were just perfect for this first year event. With great entertainment and a fantastic selection of beer, wine and ciders this is set to be an amazing event.. Make sure you put this one in the diary for 2014.

October 2013

October is always the start of the festival season in Victoria and there were festivals a plenty to start off the year. We started with one of our favourite events of the year - the Birregurra Weekend Festival. The Saturday was a sensational day with the sun shinning and everything cranking. Unfortunately the Sunday was a little cool weather wise, however the event was still pumping and everyone had a fantastic time.

October also saw the kick off for the DAFT festival in Torquay. The day was fantastic and we were treated to some amazing bands throughout the day and great food, wine, art and specialty tasting events.

We also held our biggest event of the year our Otway Oktoberfest with slap dancing, games, German fare, Ompha band and of course some amazing beers from both our Prickly Moses cellar as well as other guest breweries.

August 2013

Prickly Moses and Otway Brewing are so excited to announce that we have bought a bus. The bus has made its way from Sydney to Geelong and is set to hit the coast and surrounds during this summer. Look out for the Prickly Moses bus and bar. The bus will be available for events, private parties and corporate events.

For bus booking details contact us at info@pricklymoses.com.au.

July 2013

Prickly Moses has gone tropo! For the first time we have made an appearance at the Darwin Beer Festival.

Winter has set in through the Otways and that means plenty of rain. And plenty of rain means plenty of great beer-making! Our big ass brown ale - Tailpipe - is being brewed tomorrow, so should start to re-appear on shelves from mid August.

Black Panthers have been seen roaming Otway Estate...Yes, its true! The mystical and mysterious Black Panther India Black Ale has made its way back on to the Prickly Moses beer list. For those dark beer lovers out there, this one is not to be missed. Big and hoppy, its like an IPA only black. Head to pricklymoses.com.au to buy all our beers online.

We are excited to announce that we are going GREEN. Thanks to a great new partnership with local company SKM, we are now going to be recycling more of our waste and cutting our annual landfill by over 75%! We have also installed new energy efficient lighting into our brewery. More in the pipeline, so watch this space.....

February 2013

We kicked off February with the Great Australian Beer Festival in Geelong and what an awesome event it was. If you missed this in 2013 lock in the date for 2014 as it was a fantastic day out. Great beers, ciders, food and entertainment.

We launched our latest beer "Spotted Ale" at the Age Harvest Picnic at Hanging Rock. This is the beer to save a species ... namely the Tiger Quoll. Tiger Quolls are the largest remaining marsupials on the Australian mainland but their numbers are in serious decline. Our partnership with the Cape Otway Conservation and Ecology Centre will see all profits from this beer go directly to Tiger Quoll research and rehabilitation. Please support us by supporting the Tiger Quolls.

The Apollo Bay Seafood Festival was amazing on the 23rd February. The weather was perfect, the location beautiful and the food, beer, entertainment and atmosphere fun and relaxed. Make sure you book your accommodation and come down to the Bay in 2014. See facebook for all the pics and stories.

January 2013

Happy New Year! We've had an awesome January and certainly in need of a beer after all the events for the month. This year we have sponsored the Nightjar Market at Torquay which has grown in popularity and is a weekly event to put in your calendar. Taking place every Thursday in January the host of bands, buskers, amazing foods and wares plus our awesome beers makes this the place to be.

We helped celebrate Happy Hour at Wye River Big 4 throughout January so a big thanks to Andy and the Crew for entertaining us and inviting us back for another great Summer.

January also brings along the Ballarat Beer Festival which continues to be an annual pilgrimage for all beer lovers across the state. The sun was shining and the punters were in good form at this years event. We hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as we did. Thanks to the girls for my Prickly face painting and also to the crazy Ballarat girls for joining in on the fun and making me get up and dance!!

December 2012

Wow, how time flies when you are busy and what a busy year it has been for the Otway Estate Providore and Otway Brewing Crew. We'd like to thank all our customers and visitors for their support during 2012 and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful and successful 2013.

June 2012 - November 2013

Well, the website author took a wee break so I thought I'd just share some pics of what we have been up to over the past few months ...  hope you enjoy!!

May 2012

While the on-site crew at Otway Estate Providore helped lots of Mum's celebrate on of the biggest days of the year ... of course this is Mothers Day ... a day to thank all Mum's. The Otway Brewing Crew were on the road and out and about. May brings with it Good Beer Week and the Australian International Beer Awards.

This year the team held the "Raconteur Reloaded" event at the Royal Standard Hotel. This awesome event saw the same base using different hops to create some amazing taste sensations. Many thanks to our wonderful hosts at Melbourne's Royal Standard Hotel and all those that attended the event ... we hope you had as much fun as our crew did.

April 2012

We were celebrating at Easter this year at Otway Estate with our first Easter Egg hunt. There were heaps of activities for the kids with face-painting, egg hunt and make your own eggs. Not sure if anyone found Easter bunny, however there was lots of fun had by all.

Meanwhile back in the brewery ... we were brewing up a storm ... a hops storm that is with the Raconteur Reloaded brews taking place - many thanks to Hendo and the crew from Southern Bay Brewing. These different hop driven beers just goes to show the power and variety of hops. Make sure you come to Raconteur Reloaded at the Royal Standard Hotel East Melbourne during Good Beer week so you can join in the fun.

March 2012

March saw a changing of the guard at Otway Estate and the starting of a new era. Otway Estate and Prickly Moses / Otway Brewing now have separate management to enable concentration on the two different businesses. The on-site business will now concentrate on growing as a Providore to provide an expanded range of local produce. The Brewing business continues to expand with the cider and beer production increasing each year. Make sure you check out the Prickly Moses website for all the updates on your favourite Prickly Moses Beer.

While the on site team at Otway Estate Providore were busy with weddings and sourcing and creating some fantastic product, the Otway Brewing team were busy at the KIC Fest, Karnival, Gelli Blues Festival, Hamilton Harvest on the Hill and the Lara Food and wine festival.

Picnic at Hanging Rock

February 2012

Otway Estate and Prickly Moses were proud sponsors of the first Apollo Bay Seafood Festival. The festival was alive with great food, beer, wine and entertainment. This is a festival to put down on the calendar for next year if you missed out this time.

We didn't find Miranda at this years picnic at Hanging Rock ... however we did go on to win the Best Beer of the the show. Set in one of Victoria's most picturesque national parks, this event just goes from strength to strength each year. There are amazing food, wines, beers and more from across the state as well as fantastic entertainment and activities.

We also said farewell to Hendo as he has moved on to Southern Bay Brewing ... however ... don't worry, he doesn't get away that easy and will be back to help with some specialty brewing.

Cheers to Hendo

January 2012

We welcomed in 2012 and look forward to another fantastic year. The vines are looking wonderful and are set to bounce back after a dismal 2011. Our Sauvignon Blanc has finally matured and will make a wonderful straight varietal this year.

The festival season has been fairly crazy with the teams working hard across the state. The year kicked off with our Happy Hour Sessions at the Wye River Caravan Park ... many thanks to Andy and the team for entertaining us and the campers ... we look forward to coming back next year. The Portarlington Mussel Festival was another huge success as was the inaugural Ballarat Beer Festival where we were so excited to announce Prickly Moses Blueberry Heff as the beer of the festival. We also ventured to Great Western for a fantastic day at the races ... particularly since my bet "Tortured" won the Prickly Moses sponsored race!

December 2011

Another year comes to a close and the busy Summer season is upon us. The Brew team "Luke and Hendo" have been flat out trying to service all our orders meanwhile Hamish has been more than a little busy with his cider production and work on the vineyard. Meanwhile back in the cafe / restaurant and cellar door there have been Christmas parties a plenty.

The weather is heating up and so is the festival season for 2012. Our busy schedule sees us on the move throughout Victoria with events along the Great Ocean Road up to Portland, Melbourne, Hanging Rock, Hamilton, Great Western ... reminds me of a song ... I've been everywhere man!! Keep an eye on our website for the next place we will be.

Hendo & Luke with Prickly Moses

November 2011

Well the rain came down but the show still went on at this years Opera in the Otways. With over 100 millimetres of rain falling in the district and flash flooding the unpredictable Spring weather cried upon us again. The event had to be moved to Apollo Bay instead of being held at the beautiful Cape Otway ... never mind ... there is always next year!

The rain stopped in time for the annual Harvest Picnic in the pristine gardens of the Werribee Mansion. The stunning location created a feast for participants with gorgeous food and of course our amazing beer and wines. We took our new portable bar out for it's first major weekend outing so it really made a statement.

Werribee Harvest Picnic

October 2011

As the Spring racing carnival heats up so do the activities for Otway Estate both on an off site. Our Oktoberfest kicked off late October with crowds enjoying the specialised beer tastings, German Slap dancing, Music and games. Our friendly "bus guide" Hamish kept crowds entertained as they were ferried to and from Colac and Gellibrand as well as organising the games. Hendo educated and excited all beer lovers with his amazing new selection of limited release beers.

We attended the fantastic Birregurra festival and took our new caravan out for it's first run. The caravan / portable bar is now getting all ready for the Opera in the Otways at Cape Otway.

September 2011

Otway Estate with it's Prickly Moses beers sponsored the first Love Lorne Festival of Performing Arts. The festival was a great success and provided something for everyone from live music, acrobats, dancing and amazing acts over the weekend. Make sure you put this event in your diary for 2012.

We took part in one of Melbourne's best Food and Wine (and of course beer) experiences at the Taste of Melbourne.

We used our September events to launch our new Forbidden Fruit apple cider. After early trials this cider is now ready for market and will hit the pubs from November.

Gazz Jazz entertained crowds at our regular Sunday afternoon jazz - make sure you join us for the 3rd Sunday every month and enjoy a free afternoon of entertainment.

July 2011

We wave good bye to one of our long term staff this month as Rosie makes her way North to the sunny Queensland climate. Rosie started with us as an events student with the Gordon and kicked off our first Oktoberfest which has grown and got bigger since it's inception. We wish Rosie well and look forward to our invitation up to Queensland!

Meanwhile back at the brewery, we kicked off our six week stint and Melbourne's iconic Young and Jackson's launching some of our exciting new products during the month including our Raconteur IPA and Black Panther IBA. We are also getting ready to kick off some of our cider.

Rosie's sendoff

May 2011

May gave us the chance of recovery with many staff (myself included) taking the opportunity for a well earned break ... this was of course after our busiest day of the year - Mothers Day.

Back in the brewery the brewers were going wild on hops releasing our first Wild Hop Ale and preparing our hoppiest beer yet the love story about Hops ... the Raconteur IPA sitting at 6.4% it really hits the spot. Hendo had the opportunity to present our Organic Wild Hop ale at Melbourne's Josie Bones Hop Harvest dinner. This ale went down a treat matched with the braised rabbit, baby leeks and chorizo.

The Australian International Beer awards we once again held during May and we scored well getting medals for our Summer Ale and Saison. It was a big night yet again - certainly a highlight of the year for any beer lover.

April 2011

What a huge month April was starting with the Apollo Bay Music Festival and ending with the Grampians Grape Escape. The 3 day Apollo Bay Music Festival once again showed off some awesome local and international talent. We were lucky enough to get a photo with one of the great young talents - called Stonefield who are set to really make some moves on the music scene.

The long Easter and Anzac day break saw us busy both on site and off site. The five day break and the stretch of beautiful weather saw people flocking on site to our Harvest Sale as well as many people out and about at our markets at Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff.

The last weekend in April was the Grape Escape held at Halls Gap in the beautiful Grampians. The two day festival was fantastic and included local produce, food, wine and beer as well as plenty of entertainment.

March 2011

We are proud to announce our Blueberry Hefeweizen as the people's choice winner at the Microbrewer's Showcase at Federation Square during March. Many thanks to all those who voted for us and thanks to Hendo for this awesome brew.

The boys have been out and about sourcing some Otway wild hops for the next specialist brew to be launched during April. Read all about it in the Age Epicure on April 5th.

It has pretty well been March Madness with us out and about during the month at the Hamilton Harvest festival, Colac's KANA festival, Apollo Bay Show, Piccadilly Market in Geelong, KIC Fest, Lara Festival, Queenscliff Market, Flemington Market, St Kilda Veg Out and Karingal Karnivale ... no wonder we are exhausted!

February 2011

Our Prickly Moses beers we available at this years Melbourne International Boat and Leisure Show held at Melbourne's docklands. We learnt all about fishing thanks to our position opposite the fishing display and decided we need to sell more beer to be able to purchase one of the amazing boats on offer!

Our monthly Jazz was well attended with the sun finally shining down on us. We also held our Brewers Experience on February 19th with a highly enthusiastic team of brewers. The team got to show their hands at turning water into liquid gold (beer) as well as sampling some awesome food to match their favourite brew.

Late February we headed off to one of our favourite festivals - Picnic at Hanging Rock. The sun even managed to shine on us although it was wet in Melbourne and Geelong. Congratulations to our neighbours and good friends at Otway Wild foods for winning the best stall at the event. Beer goes really well with shitake mushrooms - you should give it a try!

January 2011

The Apollo Bay Music Festival was launched in style at Otway Estate's Day on the Dam. Visitors were treated to some amazing talent with the locals kicking off the festival. Shane Howard, The Tiger and Me, David Hosking, Los Locos and Zeptepi kept the crowds dancing and enjoying the gorgeous day. Many thanks to David Mann from 3AW for the awesome coverage and live reads on the day as well as V-Line for getting all our guests to Colac safely then to Hutchinson's bus lines for transporting everyone to and from Otway Estate.

We also welcomed many of the local and national media and members of the tourism associations. We are now really excited about the festival which is coming up from April 8th - 10th, make sure you book your tickets early at http://www.apollobaymusicfestival.com/ - look forward to seeing you there.

December 2010

Well the rain continued in December making it officially the wettest month on record which isn't so great for our festivals or our grapes. Although it has filled the tanks to ensure we can continue to make loads of beer for the upcoming busy period.

As well as hosting many Christmas parties throughout the month and doing our market circuit we worked hard on our selection of seasonal beers for 2011. Our new organic range kicked off with the Organic Raspberry beer in late November and will move to the new Organic Blueberry Hefferweissen beer to be released early 2011. Keep an eye on our facebook site for details [click here].

Dam about to overflow

November 2010

Otway Estate were proud to receive a finalist award at this years Victorian Tourism Awards. The annual awards help celebrate excellence in the tourism industry so to achieve this recognition is certainly a high accolade. Congratulations also to our good friends at Aire Valley Guest House who are a long time supporter of Otway Estate. Martin and the team also achieved a finalist award.

Here comes the rain again ... or so it seems for yet another weekend event. Many of our regular festivals were rained out or extremely soggy over November - however we still soldiered on! We enjoyed the Harvest Picnic at Werribee once again this year. The rain did stop for us to finally make the Queenscliff Market and had chance to slip over the to Queenscliff Music Festival.

We also celebrated one of our staff - Rosie's 21st which was held at Otway Estate with her specially made Rose Petal and Jasmine beer. The beer was amazing and it was a great night.

Victorian Tourism Awards

October 2010

What a month October started out to be - with the AFL Grand Final rematch and the even bigger event ... the Otway Oktoberfest. The sun came out and it was party time again at this years Oktoberfest - see our face book site for all the official photos - [click here...].

Although the month may have started off nice and sunny ... it was only to lull us in to a false sense of security as the heavens opened for the rest of the month making it the wettest October on record. Well at least it is good for beer production and keeping our tanks full.

The annual Toast to the Coast event took place over the Melbourne Cup weekend with the die hard wine and beer fans supporting the soggy event. It was a fantastic event and enjoyed by all who attended.

Unfortunately our appearance at Queenscliff and Camperdown were cut short due to the deluge and inclement weather so apologies for all beer lovers that we were unable to get these events happening.

Otway Oktoberfest

September 2010

September, the month of footy finals and time for us to take a bit of a breather. Unfortunately the Cats didn't get to the flag this year and punters got to see the Grand Final twice with the famous drawn game ... in the end if was Collingwood's day!

Meanwhile ... while the rain came down in Melbourne and of course we had buckets at Otway Estate (all good for making more beer) ... Andrew and Janine headed off to Canada to do some product research! The first stop was San Francisco which as well as the famous Alcatraz has some pretty impressive beers. We then headed to Canada and managed to score two free tickets to the 'Great Canadian Beer Festival' which was held in Victoria on Vancouver Island. Much research was done across Canada so even the famous Canadian 'pumpkin' beer is now in production at Otway Estate.

The brewers have been extremely busy over September with Hendo making some extreme beers which are ready for release at Oktoberfest, and Luke has been busy making babies - we congratulate Luke and Pen on the safe arrival of their beautiful baby girl, Annabelle.

Product research - Victoria, Canada

August 2010

As we record the wettest August on record the skies cleared and the sun was out for our indoor winter farmers market. Guests were treated to amazing metal sculptures and garden art, organic vegies, fresh produce, handmade jewellery and delicious chocolates and sweets.

June 2010

As Victoria struggles through it's coldest day so far this year - things are hotting up at Otway Estate. Our limited release Otway Panther IBA (India Black Ale) has hit Melbourne's most historic pub - Young and Jacksons along with our Otway Brewing Organic Lager, Red Ale, Otway Ale and Otway Stout.

Earlier in June we ventured up to Melbourne to take part in this years Good Food and Wine Show at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. A fun three days was had by the team at Otway Estate who were kept busy with a steady stream of punters keen to try our Prickly Moses Beers.

Andrew and Irish - Melbourne Good Food & Wine

May 2010

We glammed up and celebrated in style at this years Australian International Beer Awards held at Melbourne's Crown Casino. Our next outing was to the Kardinia International College Food and Wine Festival which was once again a fantastic event.

International star Kim Ritchie performed at Otway Estate as part of our Girls Day Out which was a great lead up to the Apollo Bay Music Festival. The team once again had a ball at the festival and are proud long time supporters and sponsors of the event.

February 2010

The Otway Estate team have been out and about over February, travelling across the countryside, setting up new distributions and attending festivals and events. Our distribution now extends to the Mornington Peninsula and across central Victoria from Portland to Bendigo and Ballarat.

Our wee friend 'Prickly Moses' was causing some strife recently when he decided to park himself under my car when I had to rush off to a meeting. He was none too pleased about moving but after some brute force I was able to escape.

Prickly Moses under Janine's car

Our outing to Hanging Rock was a lot of fun - although our ears are still ringing from Irish's constant chatter all day. Thanks to all of those who supported us - hope you had as much fun as we did.

The other exciting news was Andrew and Hamish's trip to China to help find some kegs ... look for details in the next instalment!!

January 2010

January festivals got under way early with St Kilda veg out market taking place on the 2nd January. The famous Portarlington Mussel Festival was on the 9th January offering plenty for lovers of mussel's great food, wine and of course beer. The wind gusts made it an interesting day - so many thanks to those dedicated supporters that helped keep the beer tent from flying off as they enjoyed a Prickly or two.

Otway Estate were proud beer sponsors of the Rainbow Riders 70's party which took place mid month. Guests were entertained by the fabulous Darryl Braithwaite and partied the night away in their favourite 70's gear. A great effort by all to support this worthy trust.

January is never complete without Australia Day and we all proudly waved the flag for a big weekend of celebrations. Guests at Otway Estate were keep entertained by local favourites Gazz Jazz who never fail to disappoint.

The month ended with the Queenscliff market which was a tough day for all campers due to the forecast 40 degrees - it was luckily great beer drinking weather!
