After many years of research, and many samples of beer the decision was made by Janine to build a micro-brewery. It didn't take too much convincing the other business partners that a brewery was the way to go.

Blessed with the availability of pure Otway rainwater - and an abundance of such, the decision to brew with 'the gift from the gods' was made. It is well known that you need good water to make good beer and what better than water from the lush rainforest.

The next step was to find a suitable brewer ... from various trips to Western Australia, Janine struck up a perfect friendship, not only finding a partner for a great friend, but a fabulous brewer as well.

Rob has not only progressed from 'home brewer' to micro-brewer, he has also been instrumental in the sourcing of equipment and setting up our initial beer recipes. Our partner and resident plumber Des has been the brains behind the installation of the tanks and equipment.

The first brew took place on February 18th, 2007 with the release of the first two beers taking place on March 17th.

Easter weekend saw the start of the first compliment of beers available on tap. By mid 2007 the first packaged beer in stubby was available. All brews are either kegged off or bottle fermented in 330ml or 750 ml bottles.

All beers are naturally fermented and contain no preservatives, the water used for brewing is pure Otway rainwater. Otway Estate has also added an organic lager to it's range of beers.  Otway Estate currently has 12 different beers and an organic apple cider on offering.
